Stamps, Sprigs and Surface Decoration with Lyndsay Scypta - June 10th at 6pm EST
Workshop Description:
Let’s dive deep into stamps, sprigs, and surface decoration. Lindsay will demonstrate how she has developed her tools and how to implement them into your work. We will make sprig molds and stamps to be bisque fired, color slip for trailing, and map out the surface of our work for stamped patterns and tufted designs.
Artist Bio:
Lindsay Scypta holds a BFA in Art & Design from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and an MFA from The Ohio State University. She was an Artist-in-Residence at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, New York. In 2014, she returned to Ohio and established a studio where she balances teaching at the local community college and maintaining her studio practice. Lindsay has had solo exhibitions at the Morean Center for Clay (2015) and Hudson Gallery (2019). She received the Toledo Museum of Art's Palmer Scholarship, which supported her visual research in Paris, France. Her work has been published by Gingko Press in The New Age of Ceramics and by Lark Books in 500 Vases. In 2017, she was named an Emerging Artist by Ceramics Monthly and received the Toledo Arts Commission’s Merit Award. Lindsay works strictly with porcelain clay. Her process involves throwing, trimming, altering, and decorating each piece before firing to cone 6 in an electric oxidation atmosphere. Her influences include the stone tracery of Gothic cathedrals, Victorian fretwork, and the history of the dining experience. Much of her MFA research focused on the history of the table and the development of laser-cut tools, stamps, and molds—elements she continues to explore in her work.
